Sorting by alpha ONLY when there are no refinements

In my application, users can click to the search page without any refinements. They see the first page of results and can page through them if they like. Would it be possible to sort that initial list by alpha? If any refinements are applied, I would want to ignore alpha and only use textual ranking.

Is this possible?

Hi @jonathan2, you can sort an index alphabetically, but it’s not recommended. You can read more about sorting alphabetically here.

To have an index sorted in two different orders, you will need to use replicas.

In your code, you’ll need to determine if a refinement is applied and then search using the correct index/replica.

Gotcha. Thank you so much!
