Special characters do not affect results when searching

Our QA team issued a bug saying that the character ‘.’ (dot) does not affect the search results. For example, if the name Mr.MA exists in the database, search for ‘Mr’ and teaching for ‘Mr.’ returns the same results. Can I configure Algolia to not ignore such special characters?

Hey Erik

That’s true, by default characters like .,_ etc aren’t counted, because usually they aren’t what a user wants to search for. You can change this behaviour by going in dashboard > indices > ranking > optional words & special characters. There you can add Separators characters to index.

you can also do index.setSettings({ separatorsToIndex: '.' });
